Artisan Breads
Sourdough, ciabatta, focaccia, and seasonal specialties — all baked in-house using long fermentation. Every loaf starts with flour, water, salt, and time. Nothing else.
Brooklyn · Est. Natural Grocer
On St Johns Place, we've built something slow — sourdough that rises overnight, groceries chosen without compromise, a shop that treats every customer like a neighbor. No shortcuts. No artificial anything. Just food that tastes like it was made with care.
Our Story
St John's Natural Food sits on a quiet stretch of St Johns Place in Brooklyn's 11238 district — a corner of the city where people still know their grocer by name. We're not a chain. We're not trying to be. What we are is a place that takes its time: dough that ferments for 24 hours, produce that arrives fresh, and a selection of pantry staples chosen because they're the real thing, not the closest imitation.
Everything we carry has a reason for being on our shelves. If it doesn't meet our standard — whether it's bread, olive oil, or honey — it doesn't get a spot. That's the philosophy that brought our customers here, and the one that keeps them coming back.
What We Offer
Sourdough, ciabatta, focaccia, and seasonal specialties — all baked in-house using long fermentation. Every loaf starts with flour, water, salt, and time. Nothing else.
A thoughtfully curated selection of pantry essentials — olive oils, vinegars, grains, legumes, and more. Every product is chosen for quality, not margin.
Seasonal fruits and vegetables sourced from regional farms when available. We rotate our selection with the calendar so you always get what's at its peak.
Artisan cheeses, small-batch preserves, raw honey, imported pastas, and other shelf-stable essentials that elevate everyday cooking without compromise.
Our Philosophy
We believe the best food comes from patience and integrity. That means letting bread rise the way it wants, choosing suppliers who share our standards, and turning away products that don't earn their place on our shelves. It's slower than the alternative. It's also the only way we know how to do this.
Our customers — the people who walk in from the neighborhood, who know us by name — are why we keep the standard high. They trust us to do right by them, and we take that seriously every single day.
